A Step Family is formed when a parent from one family meets with the parent of the opposite sex, from another family, and gets married. Either parents may also have children. The advantage is that it allows for a single parent family to become a normal nuclear family or as close to it as possible. The disadvantage is the newcomer into the family has to build up a good relationship with the others and not come across as someone who is tearing the family apart.
